Breaking News: Shelter Evacuated
March 18th, 2011A fire raging in Big Pine caused the evacuation of the shelter late Friday afternoon. All the animals were taken to Bishop Veterinary Hospital, where they are safe tonight.
A Big Pine Fire Department radio dispatcher said Friday evening that all residents west of Hwy 395 are under evacuation orders, and most horses in the area have been taken to the Tri-County Fairgrounds. “The fire is jumping all around town,” the dispatcher reported.
The shelter structure is threatened by fire tonight, as a high wind advisory remains in effect until 11 p.m. We will keep you posted on what is happening as we learn more.
