About ESDR
Eastern Sierra Dog Rescue – Mission
Eastern Sierra Dog Rescue is a non-profit organization started in 2008 with the following mission:
- We locate foster homes for adoptable dogs at local animal shelters that may be euthanized for no other reason than lack of space.
- We get shelter dogs as much exposure as possible through monthly Adoption Days and other types of publicity, increasing their chances of getting adopted.
- We work to educate the local animal shelters and the community to improve the care and lives of dogs.
Eastern Sierra Dog Rescue – Founders
Nancy Hardy has been involved with helping animals her whole life starting with the tomato worms on her mother’s tomato plants! She moved to Bishop in 1984 and continued working and living with various horses, dogs, cats and other animals (oh and her husband, Tom) on their small ranch in Hammil Valley. Tom and Nancy took a two year sabbatical and moved to Portland, Oregon where Tom worked on a culinary degree and Nancy pursued her passion for dogs. During these two years she apprenticed with trainers, volunteered at the Portland Humane Society, and managed a large boarding kennel. When Nancy and her husband returned to Bishop she continued her volunteer work at the Inyo County Animal Shelter and started her love affair with pit bulls by adopting Rosie from the shelter. When not spending time with the animals, Nancy teaches seventh grade history at the local middle school.
Kimberley Flores currently lives in Bishop, CA with her husband and their adopted dog, Malcolm. She moved to Bishop 10 years ago with her former dog, Fred. When Fred passed away at 17 years old, she began volunteering at the Inyo County Animal Shelter, walking dogs every weekend. Within weeks, she had adopted Malcolm, a dog she brought home to “foster” and has continued to work with shelter dogs regularly. In addition to her volunteer work with animals, Kimberley is a bilingual educator by profession and in her free time, she enjoys rock climbing, running and mountaineering.
Pam Barker’s first dog, at the age of three was a shelter dog. She has a special place in her heart for homeless and unwanted dogs, especially for the often misunderstood pit bull and bully breeds. She currently lives in the Eastern Sierra with her husband and their four dogs; a Tibetan Terrier, Bearded Collie, Cairn Terrier, and her latest addition, Pit bull Terrier “Feather,” a favorite of the family. Feather’s an awesome dog who spent a long time in the shelter waiting for the right home. Besides training and walking with her pack, Pam enjoys volunteering at the local shelter, hiking, camping, surfing and cross-country skiing.
